The Rookies 2017

Last month my lecturer suggested that I along with some of my fellow students submit our work into The Rookies competition, It is a great way to get your work out into the real world and get it seen by lots of people! There is also the possibility of prizes, since the competition's inception nearly 1 million dollars worth of prizes have been given away by various sponsors, this years main sponsor is software giant Autodesk.

Although primarily focusing on 3D, gaming and motion garphics work, this year sees graphic design introduced as a category, hence where I come in! Submissions opened on the 7th of March and don't shut until the 29th of May so there is a little way to go until the finalists are announced on the 21st of June!

I decided to enter my National Rail project which is available on my portfolio, and a project entitled VAMOOZ I have recently been working on for public transportation company Transdev Blazefield. Even after only a few days on the Rookies site my projects have been viewed by hundreds of people! The VAMOOZ project has also just been chosen for the "Editors Pick" which is a selection of projects picked by the judges each week to be promoted on social media and the Rookies website which was nice!

This process has really opened my eyes to the opportunities and audience entering design competitions can bring and I almost feel annoyed at myself for not getting involved in more over the last couple of years! Just a quick google search has come up with countless competitions that I would of loved to have had a go at, from motor racing liveries to football kits!

I am hoping to maybe upload one more project before the final submission date, in the meantime feel free to check out my Rookies entry page by clicking here! I am also keeping an eye out for any other design competitions. The Adobe Design Achievement Awards open on the 2nd of May, this is possibly one of the biggest student aimed contests which will have the worlds best young designers showcasing their work!
