Thank you NHS!
It goes without saying 2020 has been a very strange and sombre year. One shining light through this difficult time has been the dedication of medical staff across the world, and the wider public’s appreciation of their efforts and sacrifices.
In the UK, hand drawn rainbows in the windows of houses have become common sight. Tributes to our NHS can be seen on road markings, buses and even a Spitfire! All with the same goal; thanking our frontline workers for everything they have done and continue to do throughout this year.
During April, Hornby Hobbies launched their #makeitblue NHS livery competition to raise funds and awareness for NHS Charities Together. The brief was simple; design thank you liveries for both a bus and a train. I of course jumped at this opportunity to design something with such meaning and for a great cause, especially as I have family members who work within the NHS.
The theme behind my idea was to treat the NHS workers as superheroes, this was enabled by developing a retro comic book inspired design.
I was lucky enough to be named a runner-up in the competition, but of course this project was not about winning. Hornby exceeded their target of £1000, with a brilliant total of £3,385 being raised for NHS Charities Together.
Thank you to all key workers and stay safe!
