It goes without saying 2020 has been a very strange and sombre year.

As part of my role as Graphic Design Lead at Opinary I am constantly looking for ways to move our brand forward through the use of good design.

During the truly unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic I was approached by Manchester based bus company Go North West to produce an animated video. The idea was to help visualise the cab cleaning routine for their drivers at the start of their shifts.

The 3 years I spent at York St John University shaped me not only as a designer but also as a person. My first visit to Berlin in 2015 on a university trip left a strong impression on me, ever since then I had a growing ambition to work abroad.

On the 30th January Stagecoach unveiled their new look which has been ‘shaped by customer research calling for a more simplified and modern service’.

I have designed or branded countless objects and things, but the beauty of a job in the field of design is that you know your latest ‘first time’ is just around the corner. In this case, the first time (probably only time!) I have ever designed a ‘livery’ for an electrical sub-station!

Since working for Opinary in Berlin I have had the opportunity to work on some really fun internal projects as well as external work for our clients.

Another 8 new DAF trucks were delivered to Bartrums of Suffolk over Christmas. This continues the new brand rollout which started in 2018, making it now 16 vehicles in the new livery plus further arrivals due this year!

I love getting stuck into freelance projects and recently I’ve had the privilege of working with some great clients. One of these are Ohmega Group, based in Leeds, UK.

This design blog post is a bit different to most in that it is a celebration of British brands and companies that once graced every commute and journey, yet will not ever be remembered or thought about ever again.

The last few weeks have seen my 3 years studying graphic design at York St John University come to an end.

I'm a little late on this one, but better late than never! The commercial giant that is Nascar has recently unveiled an update of their brand.

In between my mountains of uni work over the last few weeks I have been working on a completely made up side project just for a bit of fun! I really wanted to work on something to do with my home city of Hull

Last month my lecturer suggested that I along with some of my fellow students submit our work into The Rookies competition, It is a great way to get your work out into the real world and get it seen by lots of people!
